Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology and energy law firm, announced today the addition of Jonathan Patchen, a commercial and business trial lawyer who focuses on trade secrets and technology disputes, as a partner in the firm’s San Francisco office. Mr. Patchen comes to Baker Botts from acclaimed Bay Area litigation boutique Taylor & Patchen.
“Jonathan is a trial-tested litigation partner with the finest credentials and deep experience in complex civil and trade secret litigation,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner, John Martin. “His arrival at the firm builds on our strong momentum in California and brings additional depth and scale to our trial practice. We are seeing clients turn from boutiques to full-service firms because disputes require expertise in a range of areas, whether environmental, white collar crime and investigations, securities, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, intellectual property, finance and global projects.”
While at his previous practive, Mr. Patchen counseled clients on a range of disputes, with a particular focus on defending trade secret, employee mobility and fiduciary duty claims.
“Jonathan is an incredible trial lawyer, with a keen understanding of the technology industry,” said Baker Botts Litigation Department Chair, Van Beckwith. “He is the 17th partner we have added to our global litigation practice within the past year, including FTC Chair Maureen Ohlhausen and Deputy Attorney General Jeff Wood, demonstrating our commitment to fielding a world-class team that advances and protects our clients’ interests in the courtroom and beyond.”
“We are delighted to welcome Jonathan to the firm,” said Patricia Stanton, Partner-in-Charge of Baker Botts’ San Francisco office. “The technology clients we serve in San Francisco and Palo Alto will benefit from the proven capabilities that this highly respected lawyer brings to the table. His arrival only continues our momentum in the Bay Area.”
“I am excited to expand on my trial experience that I gained while at my former firm and move to a bigger stage at Baker Botts,” Mr. Patchen said. “Increasingly, litigation requires lawyers who can call on the depth and expertise of environmental, M&A and antitrust, and IP lawyers to solve their cross-disciplinary needs. Joining a strong technology firm with this litigation platform gives me—and my clients—access to every one of those capabilities.”
Mr. Patchen graduated from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude, ranking in the top 10% of his class, in 2003. Following law school, he clerked in the Ninth Circuit for Judge Ronald M. Gould. In 2008, he joined Taylor & Patchen and was elevated to name partner in 2017. He is widely known throughout the Bay Area for his litigation capabilities and is recognized by his peers through a number of litigation awards. He has served on numerous bar association leadership committees, including currently serving on the Board of Governors for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
