Winston & Strawn LLP is pleased to announce that Jay Gould and Michael Wu have joined the firm’s San Francisco office. Mr. Gould will co-chair Winston’s financial services and investment management practice.
“Jay and Michael will enhance our ability to serve the diverse needs of investment funds, investment advisers, and other regulated financial market participants,” said Dominick DeChiara, chair of Winston’s corporate department. “These partners have a strong track record of helping clients in the financial services sector to navigate the challenges presented by the continuously changing regulatory environment. They are important and excellent additions to our practice and our firm.”
“We are placing an emphasis on strategically expanding our corporate practice in key markets, including Houston, London, Los Angeles, New York, Silicon Valley, and Washington, D.C.,” added Tom Fitzgerald, Winston’s firmwide managing partner.
Mr. Gould counsels clients involved in all aspects of the financial services industry, including registered investment companies, hedge funds, offshore investment companies, investment advisers, and broker-dealers. He previously served as chief counsel for E*TRADE Global Asset Management, Inc., vice president with TransAmerica Life Companies, senior counsel to Bank of America NT&SA, and as an attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission and several international law firms.
Mr. Wu’s practice focuses on the area of investment management regulation. He represents investment advisers, broker dealers, and sponsors of investment funds, including private equity funds, real estate funds, hedge funds, commodity funds, funds of funds, venture capital funds, and registered funds. Additionally, Mr. Wu assists fund managers on partnership agreements, side letters, separate accounts, and co-investment vehicles. He also counsels clients on regulatory and tax issues affecting offshore funds in many of the most common offshore jurisdictions for investment funds.
“Our new partners’ experience and their relationships will dovetail exceptionally well with our existing practice and client base,” said Joan Fife, Winston’s San Francisco office managing partner. “The addition of this team is in line with our growth strategy for our firm, our corporate practice, and our presence on the West Coast.”
Both Mr. Gould and Mr. Wu join Winston from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.
