Foster Pepper Expands Environmental Practice with Addition of Two Lateral Attorneys

Foster Pepper is pleased to welcome Kurt Peterson and Andy King to its Real Estate & Land Use practice where they will focus on environmental matters, including an emphasis on hazardous waste cleanup matters.

The addition of Kurt and Andy adds deep bench strength in environmental cleanup and recovery to the firm’s Real Estate & Land Use and Environmental practices, both ranked nationally by Chambers USA and U.S. News/Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms,” as well as the services the firm offers to industrial real estate clients involving many of the most complex projects in the region.

Kurt Peterson joins the firm’s Real Estate & Land Use practice as a Member and focuses his practice on hazardous waste cleanup, cost recovery and allocation of environmental liabilities under federal and state Superfund laws with a particular depth in sediment cleanup and landfill sites. He has successfully helped clients navigate the environmental cleanup and brownfields redevelopment process and resolve liabilities at federal and state hazardous waste cleanup sites. Kurt represents cities, counties, ports, environmental trusts, public agencies, local and regional businesses, and Fortune 500 companies in environmental law matters.

Kurt also works with clients in environmental insurance recovery matters and recovering significant cleanup costs from other responsible parties in contribution litigation, mediation and arbitration and from claims under historic insurance policies.

Kurt is a member of the Environmental and Land Use Law sections of the King County Bar Association, Washington State Bar Association, Oregon State Bar Association and American Bar Association. He was previously a partner with Cascadia Law Group PLLC and an assistant attorney general with the Ecology Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office. Kurt earned his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law, cum laude, and his B.A. from the University of Washington.

Andy King is an Associate in the firm’s Real Estate & Land Use practice and represents public and private clients at federal and state hazardous waste cleanup sites, including insurance recovery, cost allocation and regulatory matters. He also advises clients on environmental compliance matters and represents both plaintiffs and defendants in environmental tort litigation.

Andy is a member of the King County Bar Association, Washington State Bar Association and American Bar Association. He previously practiced with Cascadia Law Group PLLC, and was a law clerk at Western Resources Legal Center and the U.S. Department of Justice. Andy earned his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School and his B.A. from Bowdoin College.
