Seyfarth announced today the arrival of partner Lisa E. Schaures to its Corporate department in Seattle. Schaures was most recently a shareholder and Technology industry group leader at Pacific Northwest law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt.
Schaures counsels privately held companies, startups, social ventures, and nonprofit organizations, as well as boards of directors, across industries through every stage of growth. She advises clients on corporate structures, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate conversions, and develops creative strategies for complex tax concerns, deferred compensation, and potential conflicts of interest. In addition, Schaures assists nonprofit organizations on governance, tax exempt compliance, lobbying restrictions, fundraising law, and collaboration with other nonprofits and for-profit corporations.
“We’re thrilled to have Lisa on board in Seattle. She joins Seyfarth’s elite bench of Corporate lawyers across the country that handle difficult tax-exempt, social impact, and emerging company issues,” said Steven Meier, chair of Seyfarth’s Corporate department. “On the firm’s global platform, Lisa’s practice has massive growth opportunity with access to significant resources for her impressive client base.”
Schaures is the latest partner to join Seyfarth’s new Seattle office following the recent additions of Real Estate partner Ian Taylor, Labor & Employment partner Lauren Parris Watts, and Litigation partner Andrew Escobar. Last year, Seyfarth announced the formal launch of the office, the firm’s first in the Pacific Northwest and fifth on the West Coast. Seyfarth’s Seattle office is currently comprised of 24 lawyers, including 12 partners, from a cross-section of the firm’s nationally ranked departments.
“We’ve had terrific success growing our Seattle office with top talent like Lisa. She is a trusted advisor here in the Pacific Northwest and an instrumental addition to our Corporate team,” said Denice Tokunaga, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Seattle office.
The office’s other co-managing partner, Thomas Wybenga, added that, “Lisa is an excellent lawyer with an acute understanding of the emerging issues facing the Seattle business community. As a new member of our multi-disciplinary team, she enhances the transactional services we offer to a multitude of industries.”
Schaures is currently an active member of the InvestED Heritage Advisory Council, Seattle Philanthropic Advisors Network, YWCA of Seattle-King-Snohomish, and Fred Hutch Planned Giving Advisory Committee. She is also an adjunct professor at the Seattle University School of Law where she teaches “Transactional Law: Making the Deal.” Schaures earned a J.D. from the University of Oregon and received a LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law. She earned her B.A. from Washington State University.
