Leading Projects Partner Joins King & Wood Mallesons Shanghai Office

King & Wood Mallesons announced the recruitment of another leading Partner. Simon Meng joined the firm’s Shanghai office from Herbert Smith on September 1. This follows the announcement in June of the arrival of Dirk Walker from Dewey & LeBoeuf in Beijing with a team including Dina Yin from Linklaters.

Simon’s practice focuses on China-related M&A and projects practices. With more than 20 years experience representing multinationals, Simon is a leading practitioner in M&A, direct investments, and joint ventures in China. Simon’s prior experience included practicing in Paris, New York and Hong Kong.

Rupert Li, King & Wood Mallesons’ International Managing Partner, said, “This is another coup for the firm. I’ve known Simon for many years. He is an outstanding lawyer and an enormous addition to our team. His vast experience is a great asset to our Shanghai office and to the expansion of our cross-border M&A and Projects’platform. Simon’s arrival demonstrates our commitment to investing in this area as a priority in order to meet a growing demand from clients.”

Commenting on his decision, Simon said,“Joining King & Wood Mallesons is a great opportunity, and to be part of a new venture like this is an exciting proposition for me and my clients. The firm has a clear strategy and one that resonates with me and with multinationals expanding in this region. With its regional platform and dominant position in China, King & Wood Mallesons offers a clear competitive advantage in the fields I have been practicing for the past two decades. The firm is definitely shaping the future competitive landscape.”
