Pillsbury today announced the addition of Jack Ko, a prominent technology developer-turned-patent litigator, in the firm’s Shanghai office. He joins from Perkins Coie as a partner in the Intellectual Property practice.
Dr. Ko holds two post-graduate technical degrees and is noted for his years of experience designing high-performance lasers and photodetectors for use in telecom devices and instruments, including his co-invention of five photonic device patents, all prior to his work as a lawyer. His law practice focuses on patent due diligence, counseling and litigation across the semiconductor, Internet, e-commerce, retail and consumer products industries.
“Jack’s robust technical background, his work with world-renowned technology brands and his reputation as a leading patent litigator combine to form an unparalleled track record,” said IP practice leader Callie Bjurstrom. “We couldn’t be more pleased to work with a lawyer of his caliber.”
Dr. Ko’s technical experience also extends to semiconductor fabrication and device characterization, wireless communication devices and systems, optical communication networks, optical computing and information processing, computer architecture, mobile devices and analog devices. He practices before the U.S. International Trade Commission and in district courts and has worked with distinguished technology brands such as HTC Corporation, ASUS Computer International, Microsoft and Amazon.
“Jack’s addition in Shanghai is a game-changer for the services we offer clients across the electronics and telecom categories,” said Firm Chair Jim Rishwain. “His practice fits perfectly with our strategy for the expansion of our intellectual property offerings in China, and we are very pleased to welcome him.”
Dr. Ko is a frequent speaker and author on the topics of building patent portfolios and managing disputes. He earned his Master’s degree and a Ph.D., both in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and he is admitted to practice in California and Arizona and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
“Pillsbury’s global platform serves the full range of technology clients’ complex business needs, and the firm’s growth in China is impressive,” Dr. Ko said. “I am eager to become a part of the preeminent IP practice.”About Pillsbury
