Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman LLP is pleased to announce that it has opened an office today in Silicon Valley at 333 Twin Dolphin Drive in Redwood Shores, California. Douglas E. Lumish, chair of the firm’s intellectual property group, will serve as managing partner of the office.
The opening of the Silicon Valley office continues the expansion of Kasowitz’s intellectual property group. Mr. Lumish, along with intellectual property partner Jeffrey Homrig, joined Kasowitz in January from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and both have been working at the firm’s San Francisco office. In May, a team of eight litigators from Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP also joined the firm’s intellectual property group in Atlanta and New York. Together at Kasowitz, the group has been involved in cutting-edge patent litigation cases, working with high-profile clients across the country.
“Expanding in Silicon Valley is part of our ongoing effort, under Doug’s strong leadership, to grow our intellectual property group and to provide our clients with the nation’s best intellectual property litigation services,” said Marc E. Kasowitz, the firm’s managing partner.
The firm’s Silicon Valley office opens with eight lawyers whose practices focus on all aspects of intellectual property litigation. Mr. Lumish, who specializes in complex patent cases involving diverse technologies, is recognized for winning precedent-setting patent cases at trial and on summary judgment for industry leaders, including Yahoo! and Oracle. He has recently been selected as one of the Daily Journal’s “Top 75 Intellectual Property Litigators in California.”
“We already have a strong practice in Silicon Valley, and opening the new office gives us the opportunity to further expand our presence here while enhancing the services we provide to clients throughout the country,” Mr. Lumish said.
The firm’s intellectual property litigators have extensive experience in all aspects of the field, including patent, trademark, trade secret, false advertising, copyright, right of publicity, and related antitrust and unfair competition litigation. Attorneys at the firm have represented clients in courts throughout the United States, as well as before the United States International Trade Commission, Board of Patent Appeals & Interferences, and the Trademark Trial & Appeal Board. Many of the firm’s lawyers have advanced degrees and technical training in engineering and other scientific fields from leading academic institutions, providing them with the background and experience to represent clients in disputes concerning computer software and hardware, medical devices, telecommunications, semiconductors, financial services, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemical processes, manufacturing processes, consumer products and other areas.
