McDermott Expands Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Litigation Team

International law Firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that S. Michael Song has been named a partner in the Firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation Practice Group, based in the Silicon Valley office.

Mr. Song, who joins McDermott from another AmLaw 100 firm, has a strong background in handling IP litigation matters as well as managing patent portfolios.  His practice focuses primarily on IP litigation and counseling for technology companies. Mr. Song has represented clients in such diverse areas as semiconductors, liquid crystal display technology, optical character recognition technology,  object-oriented software, IP Telephony and medical devices. In September 2000, he left the legal industry to co-found Memory Logix, a Silicon Valley-based start up focused on developing x86 (Intel) compatible microprocessors, before returning to corporate law in 2002.  Prior to his career in the law, Mr. Song worked for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in Austin, Texas as a senior product development engineer in AMD’s microprocessor group.

Mr. Song obtained his B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was a graduate student at Illinois as well, focusing on computer architecture.  He received his J.D. in 1998 from NYU School of Law, and is a named inventor on two U.S. patents related to processor cache memory technologies.
