Jones Day Silicon Valley Office Adds Two New Partners

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Neal Stephens and Greg Chin have joined the firm as partners in the Silicon Valley Office.

Mr. Stephens comes to Jones Day from the Palo Alto office of Cooley LLP, where he was a partner in the Litigation Department. He is now a member of Jones Day’s Corporate Criminal Investigations Practice. Mr. Chin comes to Jones Day from the Menlo Park office of Latham & Watkins, where he was a partner in the Emerging Companies Practice. He is now a member of Jones Day’s Capital Markets Practice.

Mr. Stephens has handled more than 30 trials in federal and state courts during his career. He represents companies and individuals in government investigations related to allegations of securities fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, misappropriation of trade secrets, insider trading, off-label marketing, and numerous other alleged criminal violations. On civil matters, Mr. Stephens represents clients in a wide variety of complex civil litigation, including antitrust, securities, unfair competition, and class action litigation as well as providing counseling services related to compliance programs involving the FCPA. Mr. Stephens also served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Miami, Florida where he was Chief of the Narcotics Section and Regional Coordinator of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force for the Florida/Caribbean Region. As a prosecutor, he received national recognition for running investigations that resulted in the extradition and conviction of high-level Colombian narcotics traffickers, including relatives and associates of Pablo Escobar, the former head of the Medellin cartel.

Mr. Stephens attended Stanford University on a soccer scholarship and received his law degree from Harvard Law School. Following law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Alicemarie H. Stotler, United States District Judge, Central District of California.

Mr. Chin represents public and private companies in cleantech, the life sciences, and other emerging growth industries, and regularly represents venture capital firms and investment banks that support emerging growth companies. He was one of the founders of Latham’s cleantech practice and was global co-head of the cleantech industry group. His transactional experience includes numerous initial public offerings and public securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital financings. His general corporate representation experience includes assistance with business plans, company formation issues, employment matters, development of equity incentives, public company disclosure issues, federal and state securities law compliance, and advising boards of directors regarding corporate governance matters. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Chin worked for two years in business development and marketing for an emerging growth company in Japan and for five years wrote a column in Japanese about Silicon Valley news.

Mr. Chin earned his undergraduate degree from Yale College and his law degree from Harvard Law School. From 2003 to 2010, Mr. Chin was a member of the Board of Directors of Hillel at Stanford University.
