Baker Botts Continues Bay Area Growth With Addition of IP Partner in Palo Alto

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international technology, energy and life sciences law firm, announced today that leading Silicon Valley lawyer Christopher J. Palermo has joined the firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property Department in the Palo Alto office. Mr. Palermo joins from the IP boutique Hickman Palermo Becker Bingham L.L.P., where he was a founding and named partner.

“The addition of Chris provides us with even more scale to meet the increasing demands of our technology clients in the Bay Area and elsewhere,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner John Martin. “Roughly one-third of our revenue is derived from our clients in the technology sector, and the arrival of Chris adds strength to our already existing, world-class class IP platform as we further differentiate ourselves in this increasingly important industry.”

Palermo is a Silicon Valley native who has more than 25 years of patent prosecution and counseling experience, primarily advising companies in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning; e-procurement; security; networking; telecommunications; object-oriented software; and the internet. He also manages several large international trademark portfolios and selected copyright and open-source licensing matters.

“Chris brings comprehensive and impressive IP skills to Baker Botts, having worked with a range of leading technology clients on many of their most complex matters,” said Rob Scheinfeld, Chair of Baker Botts’ IP Department. “He, and the many clients he services, provide an ideal strategic and cultural fit, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

Mr. Palermo earned his undergraduate degree in communication arts with a minor in computer science from Loyola Marymount University in 1986. He received his law degree from UC Hastings College of Law in 1989.
