Internationally Renowned Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Attorney Françoise Gilbert Joins Greenberg Traurig’s Silicon Valley Office

International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues to expand its Privacy & Data Security Practice with the addition of Françoise Gilbert, who joins as a shareholder in the firm’s Silicon Valley office. Gilbert is the author of a leading treatise on privacy and security law, “Global Privacy and Security Law” Aspen / Wolters Kluwer Law and Business (2009-present), and serves as co-chair of the Practising Law Institute’s Annual Privacy and Security Law conference.

Previously the founder and managing director of the IT Law Group in Palo Alto, Gilbert focuses her practice on domestic and global data privacy and information security issues, cloud computing, and information technology law.

“Françoise is a renowned international privacy and cybersecurity attorney,” said Alan Sutin, co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Practice. “Her technical, legal, and business background is a terrific fit with the firm’s robust practice in this area, and her international focus and expertise will offer valuable insights for our clients.” Gilbert joins Lori Nugent and Elizabeth Rogers as additions to the firm’s Privacy & Data Security Practice in Dallas and Austin, respectively.

With more than 30 years of experience addressing cutting edge domestic and international computer, Internet, and data protection issues, Gilbert brings a unique combination of sharp legal skills, deep regulatory knowledge, practical business acumen, and extensive experience handling matters in markets across the globe.

Gilbert has an established practice in Europe and a growing practice in Asia in addition to her extensive U.S. practice.

“Greenberg Traurig’s strong domestic platform and continually expanding international presence is what attracted me to the firm,” said Gilbert, noting that Greenberg Traurig opened an office in Tokyo at the start of 2015 and is opening an office in Berlin Oct. 1, bringing its total number of non-U.S. offices to nine in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

“We are thrilled to welcome Françoise to our Silicon Valley office,” said Bill Goines, managing shareholder for Greenberg Traurig’s Silicon Valley office. “She delivers the sophisticated insight and high quality work that our clients expect and is a veteran of the Silicon Valley community.”

Gilbert is the latest to join a string of high-profile lateral hires to the firm’s Silicon Valley office – following attorneys David Lisi, Paul “Dash” McLean, and Joshua Walker.

Gilbert earned her J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago, her French law degree from the University of Paris/Faculté de Droit de Paris, and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in mathematics and education from the University of Paris and Montpellier.
