Pillsbury today announced it is expanding its Executive Compensation & Benefits practice with the addition of leading West Coast lawyer Daniel Stellenberg in Silicon Valley.
Stellenberg comes to Pillsbury from Shearman & Sterling. His practice focuses on advising public and private companies on the tax, accounting and securities law implications of their compensation and benefits programs. He is especially skilled at navigating compliance issues as they relate to complex tax, disclosure, EU data privacy and Chinese currency exchange laws in connection with M&A transactions and equity compensation programs. He is experienced in public company counseling on topics such as stock market listing standards, corporate governance and addressing shareholder concerns.
“Dan has an impressive track record of helping businesses deal with intricate compensation and benefits matters as they relate to corporate transactions and international operations,” said Executive Compensation & Benefits practice leader Susan Serota. “Our clients are confronted with a full range of complex executive compensation law issues, and his capabilities will be a boon to our presence in one of the business capitals of the United States.”
Much of Stellenberg’s practice focuses on private equity, capital markets and M&A transactions, in which he is an authority on employee integration and retention, due diligence and golden parachute issues. He has vast experience in guiding companies with respect to employee transitions in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and spin-offs.
“Dan brings a dynamic skill set to our Executive Compensation & Benefits practice in Silicon Valley,” said Firm Chair Jim Rishwain. “Our work and role in Silicon Valley and beyond is as robust as ever, and his diversity of experience working with companies from startups to large public corporations will be of great benefit to our clients.”
Prior to practicing law, Stellenberg worked as a software engineer for a Silicon Valley semiconductor company. He also has prior experience as a compensation consultant, advising both public and private companies in the technology field. These experiences further cement his knowledge of the legal and employee retention issues faced by employers in the sector.
“Pillsbury’s comprehensive services and global platform will strengthen my ability to serve the wide-ranging compensation and employment law needs of clients ranging from emerging growth companies to public corporations,” Stellenberg said. “I’m delighted to join the firm, and I am eager to get started with the team in Silicon Valley.”
