White & Case has lost yet another partner from its Palo Alto office: Jennifer L. Yokoyama. Yokoyama, who specializes in patent litigation, left the firm for Nike. She takes the position of Assistant General Counsel – IP Litigation. It would appear that White & Case must either close its Palo Alto office, after so many departures, or recruit and/or transfer partners to save it.

Hoping to increase their intellectual property practice, Baker Botts has launched an office in Palo Alto. The office is to focus on the IP field, but when expanding, it will take on more attorneys and more areas of law. Mark Spolyar, previous private IP firm owner. and Baker Botts’ Christopher Kennerly, a patent litigator, are to run the show.

IP and patent litigation expert, William Bohler, has joined WilmerHale in Silicon Valley. Bohler was previously employed with Townsend and Townsend and Crew, and his practice focuses on complex patent litigation and trials in federal district courts, U.S. International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has a degree in electrical engineering and has worked with such clients as Hynix Semiconductor, Visa, and Kumho. WilmerHale has 1,100 attorneys worldwide.

Goodwin Procter has opened a Palo Alto office, its fifth office in California to open over the past 14 months. The Boston-based firm recruited six Bay Area attorneys from Townsend & Townsend & Crew LLP, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati PC and Latham & Watkins LLP for the new office. The firm has offices in L.A., San Francisco, and San Diego, and has over 750 attorneys nationwide.

Nixon Peabody announced this week the opening of their new Palo Alto, CA office. Five lawyers from the Silicon Valley Law Group opened the office, and will be later joined by Nixon Peabody attorneys from San Francisco. The Silicon Valley group was led by corporate partner James Chapman, who claims to bring a business worth up to $2 million. Nixon Peabody has 622 lawyers nationwide.
