Beachcroft Opens Singapore Office

Beachcroft has officially opened its first office in Singapore. The new office adds to the firm’s international presence in Brussels, Dublin and New Zealand, and a joint venture in India. Ben Nicholson, a partner in the Specialist & International Risk group, has now relocated to Singapore on a permanent basis to run the office.

Senior Partner Simon Hodson commented: “We have aligned the Singapore office with our growth strategy for our Specialist & International Risk group (“SIR”).  We have responded to demand from a number of our clients to provide an international offering and we currently advise on a broad range of international matters for clients that operate in the region. We continue to look for opportunities to establish a credible and competitive capability in selected jurisdictions to service the specific requirements of Beachcroft’s client base.”
Ben Nicholson added: “I am very pleased that we have now established our office in Singapore.  Beachcroft has received a warm welcome from the local insurance community and as we continue to see rapid growth in the local Asian insurance market it is clear that a permanent presence for Beachcroft in Singapore will be beneficial to our clients.”
The office has also taken on its first recruit, with Julian Teoh joining from the Singapore office of Holman Fenwick Willan.
The opening of the Singapore office is a further development for the SIR group following the recruitment of Mark Sutton as a partner last year.  The group advises London Market and international insurers and reinsurers on a diverse range of high value claims across many lines of business, often involving complex coverage and jurisdictional issues.  The group has advised on a large number of high value claims arising from Asia over the past decade and is now looking to build on that platform to develop a regional presence.
The initial focus of the Singapore practice will be on advising on complex, high value commercial disputes – principally for insurers and reinsurers. In addition, the office will advise on insurance policy wordings, global programmes and coverage disputes, and support other parts of the Beachcroft LLP business in relation to matters with an Asian dimension.
