International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has today announced the appointment of corporate partner Ken Cheung to its Singapore office.
Ken is currently a partner with Singapore-based law firm Watson, Farley and Williams LLP, where he is head of the firm’s corporate practice in Asia. He has strong regional expertise, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia, and has led on a number of high profile transactions in the renewable energy sector.
The appointment is the latest high profile hire by BLP in Singapore. More recently international arbitration partner Kent Phillips and leading private client specialist Simon Michaels joined to establish South-East Asia practices in two growth areas for the Asian legal market. The firm has also opened an office in Hong Kong and hired Stuart Isaacs QC, the first London QC to be authorised by the Singapore Attorney General to practise as a foreign lawyer in Singapore.
BLP Singapore managing partner, Alistair Duffield said: “It is an exciting time for BLP in South East Asia and we are delighted to be able to attract someone with Ken’s expertise to our Singapore office. His experience in corporate transactions across Asia, combined with his renewables and private equity expertise, mean he is particularly well placed to help us expand in these areas.”
Ken said of the move: “With the continued expansion of its offices in Singapore and Hong Kong, BLP is demonstrating its commitment to offering clients significant capability in the wider Asian region. I am excited to have the opportunity to work as part of such a highly regarded team and look forward to contributing to its continued success.”
