New Project Finance Partner in Singapore Strengthens BLP’s Energy and Oil & Gas Capabilities

International law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has announced that it has hired energy project finance specialist, Nomita Nair, as a partner in its Finance practice in Singapore. As well as adding strength to the projects team, Nomita’s appointment reinforces the firm’s strategic intention to develop strong infrastructure, energy and oil and gas capabilities on a global scale.

Nomita has over 10 years’ experience in project financing and energy commercial contracts, acting for sponsors, lenders, producers and purchasers across Africa, Europe and the Middle East, with particular expertise in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects. She has previously worked in Dubai, London and New York, including secondments at Standard Chartered Bank and HSBC. Nomita’s unique portfolio of commercial skills, combined with her sector knowledge, will make her a valuable addition to BLP’s growing team in Singapore. She joins BLP from the London office of Allen & Overy.

BLP’s plans to provide a full service Finance offering across all its offices has seen the firm make a series of strategic hires in project finance, real estate finance and banking and capital markets over the past six months. In addition, there has been significant investment in the Singapore office, which recruited four new partners and quadrupled its revenue during the last financial year.

The firm already has a significant amount of international project and infrastructure experience, advising on major projects across a range of sectors and is keen to build on this by expanding the depth of its projects capability in each of the markets where it has offices. In Singapore, Nomita will join a projects team that is strong in the areas of mining, natural resources and renewable and clean energy, and committed to building on the services it provides clients in other sectors, such as oil and gas.

“I am delighted to welcome Nomita to our team. Project finance is an important area of activity for our clients in Southeast Asia and we continue to develop our offering in the market to ensure that we can deliver the very best support to our clients. The addition of Nomita’s considerable experience will ensure that our practice grows as we move forward with our strategic plans for the region“, said Alistair Duffield, Project Finance partner and Head of Singapore at BLP.

Nomita said: “This is an exciting move for me. BLP has a strong international project finance offering, which is a great platform for my experience.”
