Sidley Austin LLP Granted License to Practice Local Law in Singapore

Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that it has been granted a license to practice local law in Singapore under Singapore’s Qualifying Foreign Law Practice (QFLP) program. Sidley is one of only four firms to have been granted this license on February 19, 2013 by Singapore’s Ministry of Law, bringing the total number of QFLP firms to ten.

“We are delighted that the Ministry of Law has selected Sidley as one of the few international law firms that can offer local law advice in Singapore,” said Thomas Albrecht, managing partner for Sidley, Asia Pacific. “Singapore has become an important regional hub for multinational companies, and with the continuing emergence of the economies in Southeast Asia and South Asia, including India, our clients have told us that they will continue to grow their Singapore operations. Having this local law capability will permit us to expand the legal services we can offer to them.”

“In the nearly 20 years I have worked in Asia, I have seen the Southeast Asian markets continue to grow and develop in scale and sophistication, and Singapore has been the hub for this growth,” said Matthew Sheridan, partner and resident in Sidley’s Singapore office. “Sidley has been committed to serving clients in Asia for over 30 years, and with the QFLP license we are beginning an important new phase of our development in Asia. Working with our colleagues around the globe, we look forward to continuing to grow in the region by continuing to provide clients with strategic advice as they develop their businesses, regionally and globally.”
