DWF has appointed corporate partner Babita Ambekar to its Singapore office as the business continues to strengthen its presence in Asia Pacific. Babita joins from Duane Morris & Selvam LLP where she headed its India and Japan practice groups.
With over a decade of experience in the Asia Pacific region, Babita specialises in international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, licensing and distribution as well as select regional employment and data protection matters. She regularly works with clients across a variety of sectors, with a keen interest in energy, FinTech, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, technology and hospitality.
Babita supports clients across Asia Pacific, Australia and the US and has been described by clients in Asialaw Profiles 2019 as having “Impressive handling skills.” as well as being an “Excellent negotiator too, and in spotting legal issues”. She has also been recognised by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific in the categories of Foreign Firms in India and Corporate and M&A in Myanmar. Babita has advised on a number of high profile matters including the acquisition and sale by a Japan-focused family office of various hospitality projects in Osaka and Kyoto, the market entry by a US financial services intermediary in a number of jurisdictions across Asia Pacific, a solar power developer in relation to a regional joint venture and a global media and entertainment company in relation to international licensing and distribution matters.
At DWF, she will work with regional clients to deliver their global corporate needs across multiple jurisdictions. Her expertise in the Indian and Japan territories, providing advice to regional businesses on their regional and global activities, will help further DWF’s Asian offering and strengthen the business’s practice in these countries.

DWF Singapore launched in 2017 with a four lawyer team from Eversheds Sutherland and was the second office to open in Asia Pacific following the business’s launch in Sydney earlier that year. Babita is the latest addition to the team following the recent appointment of Jonathan Goacher who launched the business’s corporate insurance practice in Singapore.
