“We’re excited to welcome Mark to the firm. He is a widely respected and accomplished practitioner and he will play a major role helping to execute on our Asia private equity and M&A strategy, as well as contributing to the growth of our infrastructure M&A strategy in the region and beyond,” said Michael Sturrock, Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins’ Asia offices.
Sharon Lau, Singapore partner and Global Vice Chair of Latham’s Corporate Department, added: “Mark’s arrival adds further depth to our M&A and private equity practices in Asia, and our English law capability in the region. His strong client relationships and experience fit well with our focus on building an integrated global infrastructure M&A practice and complement our leading project finance practice in the region. We expect this to be a core area of long-term growth for our clients, particularly in the ‘crossover’ space where infrastructure funds and traditional private equity funds are increasingly pursuing hybrid infrastructure assets in Asia and around the world.”
“There’s a lot of energy and dynamism in the region and Mark joining the firm aligns beautifully with our strategy of bringing clients – in financial centers around the globe – the very best team of experienced, commercially-minded lawyers to advise on their most complex transactions,” said Marc Jaffe, New York partner and Global Chair of Latham’s Corporate Department. “Inbound and outbound activity demands sophisticated legal counsel. Mark’s arrival helps us to deliver that.”
Cooper said: “I have been practicing in Asia for almost a decade, and the strength that Latham’s global practice brings to clients with transactions in Asia and across borders is remarkable. Latham’s commitment to the region, strong synergies between the firm’s market-leading practices in M&A, private equity, banking, capital markets, and project finance, and the firm’s already deep and broad client base in Asia is very compelling.”
