Kennedys boosts Singapore practice with partner hire

We are pleased to confirm that we have strengthened our Singapore litigation practice by hiring Glenn G. Cheng from K&L Gates Straits Law LLC.

Glenn, who is dual-qualified at the Bar of England and Wales and admitted as an advocate and solicitor of Singapore, becomes the fifteenth partner in our growing Singapore office.

Glenn is an international engineering and construction lawyer in onshore building projects, on/offshore civil/marine infrastructure and engineering work, especially relating to oil and gas projects. He brings with him a wealth of experience in arbitration where he acts, respectively, as arbitrator and as leading counsel.

The addition of Glenn will also benefit our insurance team, especially in the areas of property, energy, construction and engineering, and infrastructure risks

His clients include governments, private owner developers, operators, drilling contractors, shipyards, EPC (IC) and supply chain contractors from many parts of the world; including the Asia Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East and the United States. He has also advised on projects based in these regions too.

Glenn was previously a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright between 2006 and 2010 and, between 2010 and 2016, a partner at Nabarro.

Julian Wallace, joint managing partner of our Singapore office, says: “Glenn will bring fantastic experience to the team with his energy, construction and infrastructure work he does. The addition of Glenn will also benefit our insurance team, especially in the areas of property, energy, construction and engineering, and infrastructure risks.”

Kevin Kwek, fellow joint managing partner of our Singapore office, added: “Kennedys is well known for being highly responsive to client need. We focus on growing our international capabilities where we see a requirement or where our clients are telling us they need representation. Glenn is an excellent fit for us, his practice aligns well with what we do at Kennedys Legal Solutions and our focus on building up our commercial litigation practice. Glenn’s appointment will strengthen these capabilities.”

Glenn commented: “Kennedys is a respected player in the legal market, particularly the insurance industry. The Singapore office provides me with a strong platform from which to grow an offshore energy and engineering team, from within the already well known wider commercial litigation team.”

In Singapore, we operate as Kennedys Legal Solutions following the 2015 joint law venture agreement between Kennedys Singapore LLP and Singapore law firm Legal Solutions LLC. The joint venture provides us the ability to litigate in the courts of Singapore.

Our Singapore office opened in 2008 and handles matters across multiple practice areas, with a specific focus on the insurance and reinsurance sector. In October, we strengthened our global insurance capabilities with the addition of a motor team in Singapore.
