King & Spalding has added prominent energy lawyers Anthony Patten and Lachlan Clancy as partners in its Corporate, Finance and Investments (CFI) Practice Group in Singapore. Clancy, who will join the office later in the month, is scheduled to relocate to the firm’s Tokyo branch in due course. Patten and Clancy were most recently at Shearman & Sterling, where Patten was a partner and Co-Head of the firm’s Oil and Gas Group.
Their practice focuses principally on corporate, project development and finance matters in the international oil and gas industry, across the entire upstream, midstream and downstream sectors with a particular emphasis on LNG-related work. They have advised on headline projects in Asia as well as represented Asia-based clients on key international investments, including in the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
“Anthony and Lachlan have a proven pedigree in advising major developers and investors on their most significant, strategic energy investments around the world,” said Todd Holleman, head of the firm’s CFI Practice Group. “Their oil & gas experience, client list and collaborative nature makes them an ideal fit for our own energy practice, in Asia and internationally.”
Patten is ranked in Band 1 for Energy & Natural Resources in Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific, with both lawyers appearing in Legal 500 Asia-Pacific, where Clancy is a “rising star” in both Projects and Energy categories.
Patten and Clancy will join the firm’s Asia CFI energy team, which includes partners Andrew Brereton, Simon Cowled, Mark Davies, Kelly Malone, John McClenahan, Richard Nelson and Merrick White.
“Anthony and Lachlan are excellent energy lawyers and complement our established axis between the Singapore and Tokyo offices, our own energy experience and many shared clients,” said Kelly Malone, Office Managing Partner in Singapore. “They also open up fresh opportunities for our wider corporate and finance practice in Asia and our international offices, including in London, the Middle East and the U.S. We are excited to have them join the team.”
