Addition of partner Jon Ornolfsson, joining from Ashurst, further enhances the firm’s energy and projects capabilities in Asia.
Morrison & Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce that Jon Ornolfsson, one of Asia’s leading energy lawyers, has joined the firm as a partner in its global Project Finance Group. Mr. Ornolfsson is a highly regarded practitioner who brings more than a decade of experience advising market-leading multinational and Asian clients on energy and infrastructure projects around the world. He has been practicing in Asia since 2007 and will split his time between Morrison & Foerster’s Singapore and Tokyo offices. Mr. Ornolfsson is the latest partner to join the firm’s Project Finance Group, following the arrival of Tessa Davis in Singapore earlier this year.
Mr. Ornolfsson is internationally recognized for his work on large-scale, cross-border energy and infrastructure matters. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, project development, and project finance in the energy sector, including LNG-to-power, renewables, and oil and gas. Before coming to Singapore in 2013, Mr. Ornolfsson practiced in Tokyo for several years and has extensive experience advising leading Japanese trading houses and energy companies on transactional matters, including inbound and outbound strategic energy and natural resources investments. He also regularly represents other prominent project developers and sponsors, as well as a number of Asian host government entities.
“Jon is an exceptional lawyer whose arrival adds even greater strength to our rapidly growing project finance team in Asia,” said Eric Piesner, firmwide managing partner for Asia and co-managing partner of Morrison & Foerster’s Singapore office. “Jon’s notable experience in the projects space, both in Singapore and Japan, further strengthens our group’s capabilities in LNG, gas-to-power, renewables, and mining. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”
Mr. Ornolfsson brings to Morrison & Foerster deep international experience, having practiced in London, Milan, and Dubai prior to practicing in Tokyo and Singapore. He has advised on many of the highest-profile energy transactions across Asia-Pacific in recent years, including in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Mr. Ornolfsson has been named by IFLR1000 and Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a highly regarded practitioner for project development in Singapore and a leading lawyer for oil and gas M&A, respectively
“I was drawn to Morrison & Foerster for a number of reasons, including the firm’s outstanding reputation in Asia as one of the premier international law firms,” said Mr. Ornolfsson. “I am excited to join the firm’s talented global project finance team and to help further expand our capabilities and experience in jurisdictions that are essential to supporting our energy and infrastructure clients with their business objectives.”
Mr. Ornolfsson is the sixth partner to join Morrison & Foerster in Asia this year. In addition to Mr. Ornolfsson and Ms. Davis, the firm has welcomed antitrust and investigations partner Daiske Yoshida in Tokyo, capital markets partner Ke Huang in Hong Kong, and corporate partners Ruomu Li and Lucy (Qiong) Lu in Shanghai and Beijing, respectively.
