The wave of senior hires at Squire Patton Boggs in Australia continues with the appointment of construction partner Brent Henderson. Joining from DWF, Mr. Henderson focuses on the front-end of construction and infrastructure projects, advising on the initial feasibility stage, tender documentation, procurement processes and contract negotiations through to the identification and management of key project risks.
Former clients include government and statutory bodies, private sector tenderers, consortia and contractors involved in major public and private road, rail, infrastructure and telecommunications projects, including those involving public-private partnerships.
Mr. Henderson outlined the key drivers for his move: “Squire Patton Boggs has an outstanding construction disputes team that are part of its market-leading International Dispute Resolution Practice. The firm’s expertise and strength in depth in this area is a great advantage for my clients and for my practice and I’m excited to explore the opportunities our coming together creates.”
Mr. Henderson joins a global Construction & Engineering Industry Group that advises public and private sector clients, including owners and purchasers, contractors and subcontractors, insurers, tenants and funders with all contentious and non-contentious requirements. The group advises on all international forms of contract and bespoke EPC contracts and has detailed experience of all US, UK and Australian common law building and engineering contracts.
Australia managing partner Campbell Davidson commented, “Brent is a real value-add for our clients. Not only does he offer strong technical expertise, it is coupled with commerciality and invaluable insight into the client perspective gained during his tenure as a commercial director on major rolling stock, road and infrastructure projects in Australia.”
Tom Wilson a partner in the firm’s global Construction & Engineering Industry Group, added, “Brent is a welcome addition to the firm. His impressive track record in advising both contractor and government clients on transport, energy and resources infrastructure projects makes him a good fit with our existing team in the Asia Pacific region and internationally.”
Mr. Henderson’s appointment follows that of a Dubai construction and arbitration team that joined the firm from Dechert last year.
His appointment also marks the 12th Australian partner addition in less than two years. In February, the firm added a team of three employment lawyers to its Sydney ranks. This growth reflects expansion taking place elsewhere around the firm, including hires into its London, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Singapore, Milan, Atlanta, New York, Riyadh and Dubai offices.
