Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Project Development and Finance Practice with the addition of Julien Bocobza in Tokyo. Julien joins White & Case from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he was a partner.
“The energy transition is changing how the private and public sectors consider their energy production mix and the technologies that are transforming that mix towards low carbon,” said White & Case partner Mark Castillo-Bernaus, Head of the Global Development and Finance Practice. “This is increasing client demand for sophisticated advice on renewable energy projects, particularly offshore wind, transition projects, such as LNG to power and the phasing out of fossil fuel projects like coal power plants, and associated infrastructure and new technology projects, including energy storage and hydrogen. Julien’s experience advising on new and developing energy transition as well as infrastructure projects in Asia-Pacific make him an important addition to our practice there.”
Julien advises on the development, financing and acquisition of energy and infrastructure projects. He has substantial experience advising across the renewables, hydrogen, nuclear, conventional power and infrastructure sectors, and has advised on projects in Japan and elsewhere in Asia-Pacific, as well as the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
“Our addition of Julien, an experienced power and renewables partner in Tokyo with strong relationships with the Japanese Export Credit Agencies and trading houses, strengthens our capabilities and position in this important market,” said White & Case partner Andrew Clark, Regional Section Head Asia-Pacific EIPAF & Disputes. “Together with our addition in Tokyo of local partner Kristian Bradshaw in April 2022, Julien’s power and renewables experience is complementary to and will expand the traditional energy expertise our Tokyo office is very well known for.”
Partner Donald Baker, a member of White & Case’s global Executive Committee, added: “Over the last five years we have successfully grown our Project Development and Finance Practice in Asia-Pacific, substantially expanding our capabilities in energy and renewables, while also focusing on large-scale infrastructure projects. Our addition of Julien will further build our practice in Japan and beyond in Asia-Pacific, as the Firm looks to ensure that it has the best capabilities in the region to advise clients through the energy transition. Julien will work closely with Kristian in Tokyo, and his arrival complements our significant recent additions across Asia-Pacific, including project development and finance partners Tim Fourteau and Jamie Franklin in Singapore, Joanne Emerson Taqi, Chris Flynn and Tim Kennedy in Sydney and Sungjin Kang in Seoul.”
