Dentons is pleased to announce that Shea Coulson has joined the Firm as a partner in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution group.
Shea’s practice focuses on commercial, real estate, regulatory and constitutional litigation. He has a deep understanding of both commercial law, and the complex legal doctrines and political environments that govern regulatory decision-making by provincial and federal governments and their agencies.
“With his proven capability to develop effective strategies that meet the goals of clients, Shea is able to navigate complex litigation and create real business-facing results,” said John Sandrelli, Managing Partner of Dentons’ Vancouver office. “Having appeared before courts of all levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Canada on precedent-setting cases, coupled with his broad industry portfolio, Shea’s diverse experience ideally positions him to serve our clients well.”
Shea has successfully worked with small, medium and large businesses through intricate, multi-party situations dealing with significant regulatory investigations and shifting regulatory environments. His sector experience includes transportation and shipping, post-secondary education, freedom of and access to information, municipal zoning and regulation, and liquor and hospitality.
Also arriving to the Vancouver office is Matthew Sveinson, joining the Firm as an associate in our Litigation and Dispute Resolution group.

Shea’s breadth of legal knowledge has led him to opportunities to share his insights with media, including CTV News, CBC and BNN Bloomberg. Shea earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Toronto in 2003, an MA in Theory and Criticism from the University of Western Ontario in 2005, and his JD from the University of British Columbia in 2009. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2010.
Matthew earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Simon Fraser University and graduated from the University of British Columbia with his JD in 2014. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2015. Matthew is actively involved in pro bono matters, and volunteers his time as a member of the board of directors for the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program.
