Alexander L. Reid Joins BakerHostetler’s Tax Practice Group in Washington, D.C.

BakerHostetler is pleased to announce that Alexander L. Reid has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington, D.C., office. Reid will be a member of the firm’s Tax Practice Group and serve as the national team leader for BakerHostetler’s Tax-Exempt Organizations and Charitable Giving team. Reid joins the firm from Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP.

Reid represents taxpayers of all types under audit and at IRS appeals, and counsels taxpayers seeking administrative guidance from the IRS and U.S. Department of the Treasury. He also provides advice to clients under investigation and regarding legislative tax matters being considered by Congress.

“I’m thrilled to join BakerHostetler’s Tax Practice Group and am looking forward to working alongside the firm’s extremely talented attorneys,” said Reid. “My practice and my clients will undoubtedly benefit from the firm’s commitment to client service and its national footprint in transactional tax matters and tax controversy matters.”

Reid has practiced tax law for more than 20 years and has a broad-based tax practice that includes tax controversy, tax planning and tax transactional matters. He also advises taxpayers under audit and helps organizations improve their governance and enhance their tax compliance. Among his many clients are charities, foundations, colleges and universities, museums and other nonprofit organizations.

In his role as BakerHostetler’s Tax-Exempt Organizations and Charitable Giving national team leader, he will work with numerous types of tax-exempt organizations, including colleges and universities, charities, foundations, museums and other nonprofits. Reid will also provide advice regarding planning, structuring, governance, investigations, tax compliance and transactional matters.

Reid previously served as legislation counsel to the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) of the U.S. Congress and as a fellow in the Office of Tax Policy at the Treasury Department. As legislation counsel for the JCT, he advised members of Congress and staff on tax policy and helped draft hearing publications and technical explanations of tax legislation. Reid earned his J.D. and LL.M. from New York University School of Law and his B.A. from Yale University.

“Alex’s broad-based tax background representing clients in a range of industries, coupled with his experience working at the Treasury Department and the Joint Committee on Taxation on Capitol Hill, will provide invaluable insights to our clients and our national Tax Practice Group,” said Jeffrey H. Paravano, chair of BakerHostetler’s Tax Practice Group and managing partner of the firm’s D.C. office. “He also has a deep understanding of the complex regulatory and compliance challenges faced by the nonprofit sector, and we are looking forward to his leadership of our Tax-Exempt Organizations and Charitable Giving team.”
