Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP announced that it has expanded its Litigation and Health Care practices with the addition of Dan Barnowski as a partner in its Washington, DC office.
“Dan is a seasoned litigator with more than 20 years of experience representing clients in consequential litigation across a wide range of regulated industries,” said Katten Chairman Roger P. Furey. “Dan’s practice complements our strengths in significant health care litigation and related internal and government investigations.”
Barnowski has served as lead counsel for numerous hospitals, hospital systems and physicians groups in investigations and cases involving a host of health care law issues, including matters that fall under the False Claims Act, the federal physician self-referral (Stark) law, and the Anti-Kickback Statute. Dan’s experience in the health care industry also includes representation of a Medicare Part D Plan and dozens of cases before the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals.
“Dan’s skills and experience expand our strength in representing clients across regulated industries on their most pressing matters—from overseeing internal investigations to responding to government inquiries to high-stakes litigation,” said Gil M. Soffer, national co-chair of Katten’s Litigation practice and a member of the Board of Directors.
Katten partner Howard Rubin, who leads a cross-departmental team of attorneys consisting of health care regulatory and transactional lawyers, former federal prosecutors, and civil litigators in representing dozens of the country’s largest and most sophisticated independent physician specialty practices, praised Barnowski as a new member of the team.
“I had the great privilege of being Dan’s partner at a prior law firm and am delighted to have him joining the Katten team,” Rubin said. “Not only is he one of the best litigators with whom I have ever worked, but he takes our nationally recognized health care litigation and investigations practice to a whole new level.”
