Dinsmore & Shohl LLP enhances its Intellectual Property (IP) practice by adding attorneys in Washington, D.C. and San Diego, California. Partners Toni-Junell Herbert, Mark R. Shanks, and Therese M. Finan, along with Of Counsel Attorneys Aubrey A. Haddach and Fabian M. Koenigbauer, join Dinsmore from Venable LLP.
Herbert, Shanks, Finan and Koenigbauer will practice out of Washington, D.C., and Haddach joins the San Diego office bolstering the IP practice in both locations.
“Dinsmore’s IP Department is unparalleled in terms of its geographic scope, but we needed to continue to build our presence in key locations. Washington, D.C. is strategic because it’s the epicenter of our government and IP specific organizations. The California coast is a hotbed of innovation and advanced research,” said Joshua A. Lorentz, Dinsmore’s Intellectual Property Department Chair. “Toni, Mark, Therese, Aubrey and Fabian expand our scope and deepen our bench, further enhancing us as one of the more formidable IP practices in the nation.”
With their addition, Dinsmore now has IP attorneys practicing in every major market of the firm’s footprint. This comes at a time when companies are increasing the focus on their IP legal needs. George H. Vincent, Dinsmore’s Managing Partner and Chairman, says the firm is committed to evolving to meet client needs.
“Our clients look to us to ensure their ideas and brands are protected. Continuing to grow and strengthen our IP Department is a priority, and this group of exceptional attorneys does just that. They have a sophisticated understanding of the IP challenges that large corporations face. I’m pleased to welcome them to Dinsmore, and I know they will fit in well,” said Vincent.
Herbert said Dinsmore came on their radar once a mutual friend and past Venable partner joined the firm. As they learned more, she says Dinsmore stood out as a clear choice, starting with the depth of its IP group.
“We were impressed with the scope of technical knowledge in Dinsmore’s IP Department. It’s rare to find that variety of experience levels, from first year associates to veteran attorneys, with diverse backgrounds that cover wide-ranging technologies from materials to aircraft engineering,” said Herbert. “We also found the atmosphere to be refreshing, and it was a nice surprise to see the collegiality. It’s clear the attorneys all share an entrepreneurial spirit, so you feel like you are supported and building something together. That can be a difficult environment to maintain in a large national law firm, but you can tell it is part of Dinsmore’s foundation.”
