Global law firm Reed Smith today announced that Rizwan Qureshi has returned as a partner in the Global Regulatory Enforcement Group in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. Qureshi re-joins the firm from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where he served as an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA). Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he was an associate in the Commercial Litigation Group in Reed Smith’s New York and Washington, D.C., offices for five years.
“We are pleased to welcome Rizzy back to the firm and look forward to leveraging his significant trial and investigations experience in the government to benefit a range of our clients,” said Michael Lowell, co-leader of the firm’s Global Regulatory Enforcement practice. “Our government investigations team recently has been exceptionally busy with a number of high-profile matters.”
While serving in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Qureshi held a senior position in the Cyber Crime Section of the Criminal Division, as well as serving in various positions in the Superior Court Division. He led numerous federal grand jury investigations and prosecuted matters involving wire fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, hacking, business email compromise schemes, aggravated identity theft and various violent crimes.
Over the course of his career in U.S. Attorney’s Office, Qureshi tried more than 30 cases to verdict, earning numerous special achievement awards during his tenure. He is a 2007 graduate of Howard University School of Law.
“I am delighted to be back at Reed Smith where I think there is great opportunity for a former AUSA with my background,” said Qureshi. “My recent roles in investigating and prosecuting a range of federal criminal matters give me considerable insight into the assistance clients require. I am focused on providing advice and counsel in both criminal and civil government investigations, and internal investigations.”
As a former cybercrime prosecutor, Qureshi is uniquely qualified to advise clients on the types of responses that are needed when they are the victims of cyber intrusions. His fraud prosecution experience will also provide important value to clients particularly in the False Claims Act area which the firm’s government investigations team routinely handles.
“Rizzy provides additional depth to our already strong bench of government investigations and regulatory litigators in this office,” said A. Scott Bolden, Reed Smith’s Washington, D.C., Managing Partner. “Rizzy is an experienced trial lawyer who is critical to our strategic expansion of our dispute resolution capabilities to meet the increasing demand in and outside the nation’s capital.”
Reed Smith’s Global Regulatory Enforcement Group defends clients against enforcement proceedings worldwide, providing assistance with antitrust and competition, international trade, government contracts, government relations, securities and fraud and anti–corruption / FCPA / related investigations.
