Former Associate General Counsel at National Security Agency (NSA) Joins Saul Ewing’s Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice

Saul Ewing LLP, a full-service law firm with more than 270 lawyers in 11 East Coast offices, today announced that April F. Doss has joined the firm as a partner and will lead its Cybersecurity and Privacy practice. She will be resident in the firm’s Baltimore, Md. and Washington, D.C. offices.

As the former Associate General Counsel for Intelligence Law at the National Security Agency (NSA), Ms. Doss offers clients significant insight into some of the most highly regulated activities in the United States intelligence community. In this role, she gained significant experience with legal issues relating to cybersecurity and privacy, including privacy and compliance programs, privacy-by-design and big data, particularly within the telecommunications, technology, and defense sectors of the economy. Ms. Doss will advise clients on privacy and cybersecurity issues, including counseling on privacy regulations, drafting privacy and security policies, cybersecurity preparedness and security incident response. She will also provide a wide range of legal services to intelligence, defense, and homeland security sector clients who are engaged in cleared conversations with the network of federal agencies that govern and impact those arenas. Her previous experience as in-house counsel to a private college will offer clients served by the firm’s national Higher Education practice a cybersecurity perspective tailored to their needs.

With a marked increase in worldwide cyberattacks and data breaches, the protection of data is a top priority to corporations and other organizations today. Members of Saul Ewing’s interdisciplinary Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice guide clients through all aspects of cybersecurity and privacy issues – from preparedness planning to incident response to post-occurrence loss mitigation and litigation. With her substantial experience and deep understanding of technology, Ms. Doss will lead the team’s efforts to bring a practical, real-world approach to addressing clients’ concerns.

“April’s reputation in the cybersecurity space is stellar, and we are thrilled that she decided to join our team,” said Barry F. Levin, Managing Partner of the firm. “Saul Ewing has invested substantial resources in developing and growing its Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice. Having April at the helm adds even more credibility to our practice.”

Ms. Doss is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP). She earned her law degree from University of California, Berkeley, Boalt School of Law; her M.F.A. from Goucher College; and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale University.
