Faegre Drinker announced today that antitrust attorney Alicia Batts has joined the firm’s litigation practice as a partner in Washington, D.C. Batts was previously a partner with Squire Patton Boggs.
Batts works with Fortune 500 and other leading companies on creative solutions to competitive impact concerns raised by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Justice (DOJ). Batts’ 30-plus years in competition law includes a two-year tenure as an attorney adviser to an FTC commissioner, where she gained firsthand insight into the processes and analysis that inform enforcement actions.
“As the regulatory environment continues to evolve, clients looking to grow their business turn to Alicia to navigate antitrust issues associated with complex transactions,” Faegre Drinker co-chairs Tom Froehle and Andrew Kassner said in a joint statement. “Her more than three decades of antitrust experience — with the government and in private practice — bolsters our capabilities in D.C. as well as the bench strength of our national litigation group.”
Batts’ practice includes the full range of antitrust and unfair competition-related counseling and litigation, including consumer protection matters before the FTC and state authorities and international merger enforcement. She is a trusted advocate for clients facing sensitive, non-public antitrust and unfair competition-related matters, as well as multijurisdictional matters. Batts also represents high-profile clients in class actions and competitor suits.
She has provided antitrust counsel to clients in the manufacturing, publishing, energy, biologics, chemical, defense, health care and financial services industries. She provides guidance and training to clients related to antitrust compliance with the Sherman, Clayton, FTC, Webb-Pomerene and Robinson-Patman Acts. Batts also provides distribution advice to manufacturers, multilevel distribution systems and dealers.
Faegre Drinker litigation practice co-leader Dan Collins said, “We are thrilled that Alicia has joined our antitrust litigation practice. Her impressive experience and comprehensive industry knowledge adds to our ability to handle the full array of our clients’ competition law claims, including complex antitrust matters and class action suits, all while minimizing disruptions to their businesses.”
With 250 litigators licensed in key jurisdictions throughout the United States, China and the U.K., Faegre Drinker’s litigation team provides unparalleled counsel services, comprehensive on-the-ground litigation support and key local court relationships.
Outside of her practice, Batts is involved in civic organizations that promote diversity and the advancement of justice and equity in the law, including The Links Incorporated and the Appleseed Foundation, where she served as a member of the executive committee and board of directors. Batts earned her bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, and her Juris Doctor from Columbia University School of Law, where she served as managing editor of the Columbia Business Law Review.
