James Alford Joins Stinson Leonard Street in Washington, DC

Stinson Leonard Street is proud to announce that James Alford has joined the firm’s International and Energy, Environmental, Mining and Transportation practice groups as a partner. He practices in the firm’s Washington, DC office.

Alford has more than 30 years of experience assisting U.S. and foreign private and public-sector clients to structure, develop, finance and implement clean and renewable energy and infrastructure projects and corporate operations and transactions worldwide, with a focus on Central and Latin America and Mexico. This includes assisting U.S. and foreign clients to identify opportunities and potential partners for private and public-private projects in hydrocarbons and electric power in Mexico and Latin America.

Alford also acts as project counsel for private equity funds investing in cross-border energy and infrastructure projects, and represents sponsors seeking financing, guarantees, political risk insurance and other resources for international projects from the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation, World Bank, International Finance Corporation, U.S. Export-Import Bank and the Inter-American Investment Corporation.

Alford comes to Stinson from a successful private practice in Washington, DC. He earned his J.D. from the New England School of Law.

He joins a practice that is known for providing creative, result-oriented solutions to clients in the energy industry. Firm attorneys have represented clients in a wide variety of transactions, ranging from the acquisition of new transmission or generation facilities to utility mergers and natural gas and power sales agreements. Stinson attorneys represent clients in the acquisition, development, and financing of energy projects. Clients include project developers, investors, equipment manufacturers, major construction companies, energy users, regulated public utilities and their subsidiaries, power marketers, and financial institutions.
