Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP announced today the addition of Terence P. “Terry” Ross as a partner to the firm’s Intellectual Property group. He will be based in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Mr. Ross is widely recognized as one of the nation’s pre-eminent first-chair IP trial attorneys. He concentrates his practice on the litigation of disputes relating to intellectual property, media, e-commerce and technology. He has tried more than two dozen jury and bench trials to verdict and made oral arguments to more than a dozen different courts of appeal.
“Terry is one of the most respected IP trial attorneys in the nation, particularly known for his ability to handle cutting-edge issues of the day in the field of intellectual property,” said Katten Chairman Roger P. Furey.
Mr. Ross has 30 years of experience counseling clients and litigating various types of intellectual property disputes, including patent and copyright infringement claims, trade secret and unfair competition litigation, trademarks and false advertising lawsuits, and e-commerce disputes. He has served as principal counsel on a diverse range of IP cases, obtaining successful results for his clients, including the largest jury verdict ever awarded in a contested trade secret misappropriation lawsuit.
“Terry’s proven track record of success for his clients and extraordinary experience in court at both the trial and appellate levels will dramatically enhance our already strong IP practice group,” said Karen Artz Ash, Katten’s national co-chair of Intellectual Property.
Mr. Ross, who formerly was chairperson of the Trademark and Brand Protection group at Crowell & Moring LLP, is a respected thought leader in the IP community. He speaks and writes widely in the intellectual property and e-commerce fields. He is the author of the lending treatise on IP damages, Intellectual Property Law: Damage and Remedies, published by Law Journal Press, and is a contributing author to Oxford University Press’ forthcoming Handbook of Intellectual Property Law. Mr. Ross also is chairman of the D.C. Bar Association’s Annual Developments in Intellectual Property Law Forum and a former adjunct professor at George Mason University School of Law. Among his noteworthy recognitions, he was selected as one of the “Top Intellectual Property Trial Lawyers in the Country” by IP Law and Business Magazine, as one of the “Top Lawyers” in media law by Washingtonian Magazine and among the Washington, DC Super Lawyers in intellectual property.
“We are excited to add Terry to Katten’s IP Litigation team,” said Floyd A. Mandell, Katten’s national co-chair of Intellectual Property. “Terry’s addition ensures our clients have available one of the best IP trial lawyers in the nation to handle their most challenging matters.”
