K&L Gates Grows Washington, D.C., Office with Corporate/M&A and Intellectual Property Partner Additions

The Washington, D.C., office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Grace Parke Fremlin and Joon Ro Yoon as partners in the corporate/M&A practice and IP Litigation practice, respectively. Fremlin joins K&L Gates from Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she was founder and co-chair of the Korea practice, while Yoon arrives from Reitler, Kailas & Rosenblatt LLC, having also served as an adjunct professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Fremlin has decades of experience representing clients on cross-border technology and M&A transactions; IP asset utilization and protection strategies in the United States and China; and global distribution, procurement, and supply contracts. She also advises in such areas as corporate governance, global regulatory compliance, international trade policy, treaties, and U.S. government relations.

With a focus on patent litigation, Yoon negotiates IP licensing and settlement agreements, creates patent monetization projects, and advises on the formation and operation of patent licensing programs. He has represented clients on matters involving a wide range of technologies, including telecommunications, Voice over IP (VoIP) services, smartphones, location-based services, data delivery, and navigation.

Together, Fremlin and Yoon have counseled Korean, Japanese, Chinese, British, and U.S. enterprises in cross-border commercial, regulatory, and IP litigations and transactions, assisting on their overseas operations, corporate legal structures, contractual and practical ways of protecting their IP assets, and defending against IP infringement lawsuits.

“Our IP practice in Washington continues to grow and will be further strengthened through the arrivals of both Grace and Joon,” said David T. Case, Administrative Partner of K&L Gates’ Washington, D.C., office. “Their experience, particularly at the international level, will expand our corporate and IP services to our clients across the globe. We are pleased to welcome them to the firm.”

K&L Gates has one of the legal industry’s most substantial full market corporate transactional and counseling practices and was honored as “Law Firm of the Year” by Mergers & Acquisitions in 2013. The firm’s intellectual property litigation practice counsels clients in the various aspects of IP litigation, including the protection of emerging communications technologies, novel drug therapies, iconic brands, trade secrets, copyrights, and other proprietary information. In 2014, Law360 named the practice as a “Practice Group of the Year” for IP Law and, in 2013, The National Law Journal named the group to its “IP Hot List” of the top practices in the United States.
