Mintz is continuing to grow its nationally recognized Technology, Communications & Media (TechComm) practice with the arrival of leading industry attorneys T. Scott Thompson and Daniel P. Reing, who have joined the TechComm section as Members based in the Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Thompson will Chair the Section’s Communications Infrastructure Litigation Practice. Mr. Thompson and Mr. Reing join from Davis Wright Tremaine LLP.
Mr. Thompson represents companies and industry associations in legal, regulatory, and policy matters involving the deployment of wireless and wireline telecommunications networks. He leverages more than two decades of experience and his in-depth knowledge of the industry to help clients develop strategies for nationwide deployments and resolve high-stakes disputes. Along with serving as lead counsel in numerous appeals that set precedent on key Communications Act issues, Mr. Thompson has prevailed in dozens of trial court cases that challenged local government denials of permits and prohibitions of service. His role as a trusted advisor to industry leaders includes representing telecommunications providers and organizations in major policy-setting proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission. He is also frequently asked to speak on legal and policy issues that impact the telecommunications sector.
Mr. Reing provides strategic regulatory and litigation counsel to benefit companies in the communications industry. For nearly 15 years, clients in the cable, broadband, and wireless sectors have relied on his in-depth industry knowledge and exceptional insight on state and federal laws to help them advance key projects and achieve their business goals. He has represented clients in a wide range of regulatory and litigation matters, from handling federal, state, and local communications franchising and deployment issues to litigating cases that have advanced the Communications Act case law to facilitate future broadband deployment. Mr. Reing routinely uses his deep knowledge of the state and federal laws impacting cable franchising to assist his cable clients with a wide variety of regulatory and compliance issues, and he has played key roles in obtaining required state and local regulatory approvals for several of the largest mergers in the cable industry. He regularly advises clients on state and federal legislative and administrative developments that may impact their operations and growth strategies.
