Stinson Leonard Street is pleased to announce that Roy Goldberg has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington, DC office. He joins the firm from Steptoe & Johnson LLP.
Goldberg is a trial, appellate and regulatory attorney and transportation lawyer who represents corporations, partnerships, airlines, airports, trade associations, aircraft owners, airport vendors, developers and other aviation and transportation entities on a wide range of commercial and regulatory litigation matters, and provides advice and counseling to airlines, airports and other aviation industry entities. One of Goldberg’s areas of focus is airport compliance with the federal grant assurances to which they agree in exchange for receipt of federal funds. He also has a general commercial, intellectual property, and class action litigation practice which is national in scope.
On behalf of airlines and other aviation entities, Goldberg has successfully challenged hundreds of millions of dollars in government-imposed user fees, taxes and charges and obtained dismissal of more than a dozen federal and state lawsuits as preempted by the Airline Deregulation Act. He also represented airlines in successful challenges to user fees imposed by the FAA for air traffic control and the TSA for airport security screening.
In his general litigation practice Goldberg has served as lead counsel before juries, and federal, state and administrative law judges throughout the United States. He also has argued more than 25 appeals before federal circuit courts and has been first chair counsel in arbitration hearings throughout the United States and Europe. Goldberg also represents patent-holders and defendants in patent infringement litigation across the U.S. He joins the firm from Steptoe & Johnson LLP.
“I am really looking forward to joining Stinson Leonard Street and becoming part of its thriving transportation and litigation practices,” said Goldberg. “The firm has great lawyers and leadership and is situated in strategically important geographic areas throughout the United States. Also, having grown up in Kansas City I really appreciate the Midwestern approach to the practice of law and the genuine value it presents for clients.”
“We are delighted to have Roy aboard” said David Rifkind, head of Stinson’s Transportation Group. “Roy represents a key step in implementing the firm’s strategic plan to add attorneys, such as Roy, who in addition to being fantastic attorneys, have a deep understanding of the industries that they serve, and a commitment to client service.”
Goldberg earned his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law, and clerked at the U.S. District Court in Denver. He joins a team of experienced litigators, regulatory and transaction lawyers that represent a wide variety of transportation businesses throughout the country. Many of the attorneys play active roles in transportation associations and frequently present and write on issues faced by companies in the transportation industry. The firm’s experience includes representing and assisting clients with routine contract issues, commercial litigation, mergers and divestitures, securities compliance, corporate governance and financial reporting.
