Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Sean C. Griffin to its Commercial Litigation Practice Group as a member in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. Prior to joining Dykema, Griffin practiced at Garvey Schubert Barer in Washington, D.C. He also previously served in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, where he handled commercial litigation trials and appeals for more than a decade.
In his practice, Griffin focuses on general commercial litigation, ethics and compliance, and legal malpractice defense. His cases typically involve contractual breaches and often include allegations of fraud or bad faith. He often defends insurance companies in coverage litigation, property damage litigation, and similar matters in trials around the country and has also represented investors in fraud cases.
In addition to litigating cases in state and federal courts around the country, he manages internal investigations of potential breaches of federal, state, and local law, including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), the Securities Act, the Exchange Act, and Dodd-Frank. Regarding his compliance practice, Griffin assists clients with anti-corruption efforts around the world, including Angola, Nigeria, Russia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom.

Griffin received his J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law, and a B.A., cum laude, from Harvard University.
