Marques Peterson, a well-regarded government contracts lawyer with a focus on international government contracts and the defense sector, has joined Pillsbury as a partner in the firm’s award-winning Government Contracts & Disputes practice. He joins from Vedder Price P.C., where he was a shareholder, and will reside in the firm’s Washington, DC office.
Peterson is an accomplished lawyer with a rapidly growing profile in the highly specialized area of government contracts law. He is widely recognized for his comprehensive knowledge of the international government procurement and commercial sales process, particularly as it applies to contractors in the defense sector. He also has significant experience in post-award bid protest disputes, claims and investigations, contract disputes, government contract compliance issues, anticorruption issues, mergers and acquisitions, export control and international sanctions compliance.
Government Contracts & Disputes practice co-leader Mike Rizzo said, “We have known and worked with Marques for many years and are thrilled he has decided to join our team. Our clients and our practice will benefit greatly from his vast defense sector experience and his naturally collaborative approach.”
“Marques’ skill set perfectly complements our existing government contracts capabilities,” added practice co-leader John Jensen. “He brings even more depth to our already talented roster of government contracts practitioners and significantly expands our international contracts offering.”
Peterson began his legal career in the Department of Air Force Office of the General Counsel, where he served as an acquisition attorney and counseled the Air Force on high-profile, large-dollar acquisition programs. His federal agency experience compliments the practice’s already deep bench of former government officials. Peterson also is a frequent writer and speaker on government contracting topics of interest to contractors, serves as an instructor for the Public Contracting Institute and is a current Co-Chair of the ABA’s Public Contracting Law Section’s International Procurement Committee.
“Pillsbury’s Government Contracts & Disputes practice has long been regarded as a market leader, and I know from personal experience that the lawyers in this group are some of the finest in the country,” Peterson noted. “I am excited to join such a distinguished group and to be a part of the broader firm’s continued rapid growth.”
