Dechert LLP announced today that Michael J. Barta has joined the firm in its Washington office as a partner in the litigation group. Barta was most recently a partner and Chair of the White-Collar Crime and Corporate Investigations group at Baker Botts LLP.
“Michael is a highly skilled first-chair trial lawyer, and we are excited to have him join our team,” said Dechert chairman Andrew J. Levander. “The depth of his litigation experience will add to our significantly strong bench and will be of great benefit to our clients.”
Barta is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has substantial experience in enforcement actions and investigations, white collar crime, securities regulation and intellectual property litigation. He has served as lead counsel for trials in 18 states and the District of Columbia, representing both individuals and companies in: criminal investigations; prosecutions and related enforcement proceedings; and complex intellectual property matters.

Barta is a graduate of Princeton University (A.B., 1985) and Harvard Law School (J.D., 1988). He is a member of the District of Columbia and Virginia bars, and is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Barta has been ranked by Chambers USA since 2010, and is also recognized by The Legal 500 and Best Lawyers in America.
