Morgan Lewis today welcomes Ryan M. Kantor, former assistant chief of the US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, Healthcare and Consumer Products Section, as a partner. He will be resident in the firm’s Washington, DC, office.
At the Justice Department, Mr. Kantor oversaw antitrust investigations and enforcement actions involving healthcare, insurance, consumer products, and other sectors. He led or supervised some of the Antitrust Division’s largest and most important investigations, lawsuits, and enforcement actions in a wide variety of industries.
“Ryan’s arrival deepens our capabilities to serve clients with respect to government antitrust enforcement matters and private litigation,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “His high-level work at the DOJ makes him an ideal addition to our elite antitrust practice.”
Mr. Kantor has an extensive background in civil merger and non-merger investigations and litigation. He joined the Justice Department as a trial lawyer in 2007 after working in private practice for global law firms. As assistant chief of the Antitrust Division’s Healthcare and Consumer Products Section, he managed more than two dozen lawyers who were responsible for investigating and prosecuting merger and non-merger antitrust matters in the healthcare, retail, consumer products, and pulp and timber sectors. He also worked extensively on matters relating to the telecommunications and technology industries. During his tenure at the Justice Department, he earned the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award (the department’s second highest performance award) and three Assistant Attorney General Awards (the Antitrust Division’s top performance award).
“With his government and private practice background, Ryan will be a great resource and instant asset for our clients in numerous industries, including in the healthcare, insurance, financial services, and retail sectors,” said Steven A. Reed, leader of Morgan Lewis’s global antitrust practice. “Because his work has involved both enforcement and merger control activities, he is particularly well-suited to handle a broad range of complex antitrust matters.”
Mr. Kantor’s arrival follows that of antitrust partner Christina Renner in Brussels, who joined the firm in March. Morgan Lewis’s global antitrust practice is one of the largest in the world, with unique cross-jurisdictional depth and a deep bench of former high-level government officials with insight into enforcement practices around the world.
