Morrison & Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce that Alice (“Ali”) L. Connaughton has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C., office as a partner in the REIT Group. Ms. Connaughton, who brings more than 18 years of experience advising public companies, real estate investment trusts (REITs) and other entities in various capital markets transactions, will also play a key role in the firm’s Corporate Finance | Capital Markets Group. She joins Morrison & Foerster from Greenberg Traurig.
Ms. Connaughton concentrates her practice on advising public companies – primarily public, non-traded REITs – in connection with capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance matters. She represents several of the leading sponsors of non-traded REITs and has helped clients raise more than $20 billion in public offerings. She also has extensive experience representing non-traded REITs with respect to SEC, FINRA and state Blue Sky regulatory matters, and she frequently advises the management, boards and committees of her clients in all aspects of their business.
“Ali is a nationally recognized REIT lawyer with a long and impressive track record representing public, non-traded REITs, and we are excited to have her join our team,” said David Slotkin, co-chair of the firm’s REIT Group. “Ali’s focus on non-traded REITs further positions Morrison & Foerster as a destination firm for all REIT types and their sponsors. Through Ali’s addition, we now are able to offer a leading full-service REIT practice for both traded and non-traded REITs.”
Numerous REITs, across asset classes, continuously turn to Ms. Connaughton for counsel on initial and follow-on public offerings and rely on her for ongoing corporate governance, securities compliance and other general corporate matters. Since 2014, Ms. Connaughton has been recognized as a top REIT lawyer in the country by Chambers USA, the world’s most renowned legal directory.
Ms. Connaughton received her J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law, where she served as the Notes & Comment Editor of the American University Law Review. She earned her B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
“Morrison & Foerster already has one of the most active and highly regarded REIT practices in the U.S.,” said Ms. Connaughton. “The group is well known for its work with publicly traded REITs, so it’s an exciting opportunity to further build out the practice to include non-traded REITs as well. I’m looking forward to working with my new colleagues to provide a unique offering to clients by a law firm of Morrison & Foerster’s stature.”
Ms. Connaughton is the latest partner to join Morrison & Foerster’s growing REIT Group, which also added tax partner Jay Blaivas, who joined from The Blackstone Group, and recently announced the promotion of Andrew P. Campbell to partner. Ms. Connaughton’s addition also highlights Morrison & Foerster’s commitment to further expanding its corporate offerings in the Mid-Atlantic region.
