Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP has enhanced its Intellectual Property Practice Group with the addition of patent attorney William S. Foster, Jr., who joins as a partner residing in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
“Bill is an outstanding and respected attorney who brings a wealth of patent prosecution and litigation experience to the firm,” said Andrew C. Kassner, Chairman and CEO of Drinker Biddle. “He has represented a wide range of clients in complex patent disputes, which will be of tremendous value to our clients and our Intellectual Property Practice.”
Previously, Mr. Foster was a partner at Baker Botts. As a registered patent attorney, his practice is focused on patent counseling and related litigation and prosecution matters. Mr. Foster’s experience spans a wide range of technologies in the mechanical and electrical fields, including fuel injectors, compressors, automotive emission systems, medical devices, household appliances, storage tanks for hazardous material, shipping containers, concrete support structures, packaging machinery, and brewing technology.
Mr. Foster has experience with electrical innovations, including liquid crystal and plasma display devices, thin film transistors, automobile lighting, wireless transmission systems, data transfer protocols, and electronic printing and imaging systems. He is also familiar with memory circuits, such as SDRAM and flash memory. Also, Mr. Foster advises clients with respect to intellectual property and data rights issues arising under government contracts.

Before entering the legal field, Mr. Foster served in policy positions in both the executive and legislative branches of government, including two years with the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Mr. Foster earned his law degree from George Mason University and his B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame.
