Polsinelli announced today the addition of seasoned real estate attorney Diane Shapiro Richer as shareholder in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Richer brings more than 30 years of legal experience to Polsinelli, joining the firm’s national platform of more than 60 real estate attorneys.
“Diane joins our national Real Estate practice at a time of ongoing firm growth, bringing significant depth of experience and a reputation for successfully handling complex real estate transactions in the Washington, D.C. area and beyond. She will be a valuable asset to our strong real estate team and to our clients across the country,” said Real Estate Division Chair John Petersen.
Richer focuses her practice on guiding clients through the multi-layered and complex real estate transaction process, including assisting clients in acquiring, financing, developing, leasing, operating and selling commercial real estate. She represents real estate investment trusts (REITs), private developers, construction and permanent lenders, retailers, non-profits and corporate users of real estate in a broad range of commercial real estate transactional matters.
Richer has worked extensively on commercial real estate financings for borrowers and lenders, as well as acquisitions and dispositions of office buildings, shopping centers, development parcels, hotels, apartment buildings and mixed-use developments. She also represents landlords and tenants in lease transactions, and is experienced with settlement agreements, deed-in-lieu transactions and other loan workouts.
“I was drawn to Polsinelli’s broad real estate platform, reputation for excellence and collegiality, and commitment to collaboration in assembling the best team for each assignment. It was the firm’s ability to deliver practical solutions that clients want, within a highly competitive fee structure, that made the case so compelling for me.”
Diane earned her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as an associate editor of the Tax Lawyer Law Review. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. She is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and New York.
“We are very pleased to have Diane join our DC office,” said Philip Feigen, Managing Partner of the Washington, D.C. office. “We have a strong and growing presence in the DC business community. Her diverse background in commercial real estate transactions is a great fit for us.”
Diane has earned a number of distinctions, including real estate rankings in Legal 500 – US and DC Super Lawyers. She serves on the Steering Committee for the Boy Scouts of America, National Capital Area Real Estate and Construction Industry’s annual Character Under Construction Awards, serves on the Grant Review Committee of the United Way of the National Capital Area, and is a member of DCBIA, and its Capital Markets Committee, NAIOP, and NAREIT.
