Marjorie Gannett has joined Holland & Knight in Washington, D.C., as a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Section. Ms. Gannett has extensive experience representing owners and developers of commercial real estate properties, particularly clients acquiring, financing and selling large portfolios of gas stations and other environmentally impacted properties regionally and nationally for ownership, operation and development. She was previously a partner with Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in Washington.
In addition to wholesale fuel distributors, Ms. Gannett represents owners, developers, tenants and lenders in a broad spectrum of commercial real estate transactions, including construction and permanent loan financing for commercial properties and multi-family residential developments, ground leases, and purchases and sales of improved property as well as raw land. Her work related to gas station properties involves creating corporate structures to accommodate a variety of financing, conducting real estate and environmental due diligence, reviewing franchise agreements, and negotiating mezzanine and mortgage loan documents. Ms. Gannett also drafts and negotiates long-term ground leases, including unitary ground leases for portfolios of properties.
“We are delighted to have Marjorie on our team. She is an excellent lawyer with broad ranging experience, as well as niche expertise that will enhance both our real estate practice and our firm,” said Tara Scanlon, who leads Holland & Knight’s Washington and Northern Virginia Real Estate Group. “Her focus on providing real estate transactional services to energy companies will be of great value to many of the firm’s clients in the energy sector in Washington and across the country.”
“Many of my clients include wholesale gasoline distributors and their businesses. In addition to real estate, they have legal needs in a number of areas, ranging from tax, corporate, environmental and insurance to litigation, employment and ERISA,” said Ms. Gannett. “Holland & Knight’s strong practices in each of these areas—combined with its multi-disciplinary, team-based approach—will help me to provide them with the best representation possible. I am thrilled to join Holland & Knight’s premier real estate group.”
Ms. Gannett received a J.D. degree from the UCLA School of Law and a B.A. degree from Wesleyan University.
