Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced today that Robert Stern has joined the firm as a partner in its Securities Litigation, Investigations and Enforcement Practice in Washington, D.C. Rob joins the firm from O’Melveny & Myers, where he was a partner.
Nationally recognized by Legal 500, Rob represents financial institutions, Fortune 100 companies and officers and directors of public companies in defending major state and federal actions. He represents companies and individuals before the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and in Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrations. Rob has successfully resolved mortgage-backed securities and structured products claims, accounting fraud matters and claims involving derivative instruments. His clients have included Dealertrack (part of Cox Automotive), H&R Block, Ameriprise Financial and Bank of America.

The firm has announced several additions this year to its litigation practice, which the American Lawyer ranks among top 10 law firms in its Litigation Power Rankings and among six finalists for its 2016 Litigation Department of the Year. This month, Melinda Haag returned to Orrick to head the firm’s global Litigation practice, after serving for five years as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, and the firm has also added litigation teams in Houston and New York. Since 2014, the firm has added to its Washington, DC, office: William (Billy) B. Jacobson, former Co-General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Weatherford International and former DOJ Fraud Section Assistant FCPA Chief; Jonathan E. Lopez, who joined after serving as Deputy Chief of the DOJ’s Money Laundering and Bank Integrity Unit; Alex Okuliar, a DOJ and FTC alum who most recently served as attorney advisor to Commissioner Maureen Ohlhausen, and Christopher Wilkinson, formerly DOL Associate Solicitor for Civil Rights and Labor-Management.
Rob is a faculty member for the Practising Law Institute’s Securities Litigation program, and is on the advisory board of the Strafford Securities Litigation and Finance Teleconferences. He serves on the Lawyers’ Committee and the Next Generation Board of Directors of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
