Polsinelli welcomes well known FDA attorney Stuart M. Pape to its Washington, D.C. office as a shareholder. With extensive knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and food and drug safety regulatory bodies worldwide, Pape will lead and strategically grow Polsinelli’s FDA Practice. Joining Pape and the FDA group are two highly experienced colleagues: Shareholder Carey B. Nuttall, and Of Counsel Anne D. Spiggle, who together will assist Polsinelli in serving clients with FDA matters.
“Everything aligned when I met the leadership of Polsinelli. I am very excited about the opportunity to practice in an entrepreneurial, fast-growing firm that has attracted sophisticated laterals all over the country and risen to be a national player in just a few short years,” said Pape, from his Washington, D.C., office. “The firm’s economic and geographic platforms were attractive and match my clients’ needs. I embrace the firm’s business-focused client philosophy. It’s a great time to join Polsinelli.”
His practice focuses on FDA and USDA matters and related government policy, lobbying, government investigations and compliance. His depth of industry experience spans from food, life sciences and agriculture, to health care, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing/consumer products. Pape has represented a wide array of clients that deal with the FDA regulatory scheme such as food and drug companies, major food industry trade associations, dietary supplement companies and conventional food manufacturers. Pape stepped down as the managing partner of another AmLaw 100 firm in 2010, after serving for nearly 15 years.
Pape will collaborate closely with Polsinelli’s Life Sciences Practice led by Kevin R. Sweeney. Polsinelli’s multi-disciplinary Life Sciences Practice serves clients ranging from mature businesses to entrepreneurs to research organizations and scientists. “I am very excited about the addition of the national FDA practice led by Stuart Pape, a critical strategic enhancement to Polsinelli’s ability to provide the full range of legal services required by our life science clients,” said Sweeney. The Life Sciences practice includes a blend of lawyers, scientists and public policy advisors who provide clients with industry-focused representation including a full range of legal services in business transactions, corporate finance and intellectual property, FDA, and health care issues.
Carey Nuttall is highly regarded in the industry. He counsels clients involved in the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, foods, medical devices, and cosmetics, as well as related Federal Trade Commission regulatory matters. Nuttall is also a former Associate Chief Counsel for Enforcement in FDA’s Office of the Chief Counsel, where he advised clients on a multitude of FDA-regulatory and enforcement matters.
Anne Spiggle serves clients on a wide range of regulatory and public policy matters involving FDA, the FTC, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Additionally, Spiggle provides assistance to clients with regulatory enforcement actions and conducting regulatory due diligence on corporate transactions and private equity investments.
The addition of the trio strengthens the capabilities of Polsinelli’s Washington, D.C. office. The office offers a wide range of services, including: public policy, government contracts, litigation, financial services, corporate transactions, and health care. The Washington, D.C. office has played an integral part of Polsinelli’s overall growth, which resulted in the firm being recognized by The American Lawyer Magazine as the fastest growing U.S. law firm for the past six years. In 2015, U.S. News & World Report designated Polsinelli the “Law Firm of the Year in Health Care.”
“As a former colleague of Stuart’s, I’m pleased to reconnect with him again and have his presence, leadership, and capabilities in our office, as well as in our national FDA practice,” said Polsinelli’s Washington, D.C. Office Managing Partner Phil Feigen. “Stuart is a recognized name in Washington, D.C. and having him as part of our team energizes the office. He’s a great addition to our firm.
